Giving Children a Head Start to Success

For more than 50 years, Head Start has provided comprehensive early childhood development programs for disadvantaged preschool-age children and their families. As one of Coastal Plain Area EOA service units, Head Start operates 13 centers throughout South Georgia including Ben Hill, Berrien (2), Brooks, Cook, Irwin, Lanier, Lowndes (4), Tift and Turner counties. The program’s objectives have remained constant for the past five decades: improve the child’s health, aid the child’s intellectual, social, and emotional development, expand the child’s ability for self-expression, and help both the child and their families gain greater confidence, self-respect, and dignity.

Community Service Centers: Helping People Achieve Financial Self-Sufficiency

The Coastal Plain Area EOA has 10 Community Service Centers located in Ben Hill, Berrien, Brooks, Cook, Echols, Irwin, Lanier, Lowndes, Tift, and Turner counties. The centers provide a variety of programs and social services designed to help economically disadvantaged families and individuals achieve financial self-sufficiency. Staff members and volunteers assist clients with résumé writing, budget counseling, and financial planning.
